Bee Stings & Treatment

If you have been stung by a bee, fiirst you will need to remove the bee's sting. You should remove the bee sting as quickly as possible by whatever method is available, as the sooner you remove the sting, the lesser the effect the bees sting will have on you, as less venom will have been injected into your skin.

After you have removed the bee's sting, treatment by way of a cold ice pack or similar should usually be adequate. The pain should subside after a few hours and although the area may swell somewhat, this too will disappear usually in less than a week provided you do not scratch the irritated area. If swelling continues beyond a week, you should contact your doctor.

How To Treat The Sting

There are many advertised remedies for bee stings but most of them are relatively inappropriate to the cause as the area the venomous acid of the sting has disrupted is under the skin, rendering alcali treatments which only concentrate on the surface of the skin ineffective. Making a baking soda (bi-carbonate) paste by mixing with water and applying to the effected area may help neutralise the acid.
